OCTOBER 2024 | DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS

Written by Jeff St. Denis – Founder & CEO of Culture Catalyst Inc.

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of making workplaces accessible and inclusive for everyone. In today’s tight labour market, companies that embrace diversity—particularly people with disabilities—are better positioned to thrive.

With 1 in 5 Canadians identifying as having a disability, addressing inequities in recruitment is not only an ethical obligation but also a strategic move for companies facing chronic labour shortages. Inclusive hiring practices are essential to attract and retain talent from all backgrounds, including people with disabilities, and foster a workplace culture that promotes diversity and inclusion.

Despite progress, unemployment rates for people with disabilities remain disproportionately high. This article offers HR professionals and hiring managers actionable strategies and inspiration for building more inclusive recruitment and selection processes. Featuring success stories, such as Faber Snowshoes, TD Canada Trust, and Lil E Coffee Café while debunking myths about interview practices, we aim to inspire organizations to unlock the full potential of diverse talent.

FEBRUARY 2025 | BLACK HISTORY

Written by Jeff St. Denis – Founder & CEO of Culture Catalyst Inc.

As Black History Month comes to a close, now is the time to reflect on how we can sustain the momentum year-round. February has been a month of learning, celebrating Black excellence, and amplifying Black voices. But true impact comes from what we do each and every day.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Black colleagues and learning from their lived experiences—their stories of growing up knowing that the shade of their skin would influence how they are perceived by strangers, authority figures, and even colleagues in the workplace.

If you’ve never had to think about that—that’s privilege.
